Kool-Aid is an American brand of flavored drink mix owned by Kraft Heinz based in Chicago, Illinois. The powder form was created by Edwin Perkins in 1927 based upon a liquid concentrate called Fruit Smack.

Interestingly, or maybe strangely, kool-Aid has been the official state soft drink for Nebraska USA since 1998.

As explained on the Nebraska Legislature Government website (bluebook/11-19.pdf): "On May 21, 1998, Gov. Ben Nelson declared Kool-Aid to be the official state soft drink. The fruit-flavored drink was developed in Hastings in 1927 by Edwin E. Perkins, founder and president of the Perkins Products Co.6"
